Uncovering Voices: The Oral History Project
What is the Oral History Project?
This project explores how sharing stories might help people feel more connected to their community and support their overall well-being.
Our team will be setting up booths where residents have the opportunity to share and reflect on personal and community stories.
We’re inviting community members to share their stories and talk about their experiences living in their neighborhoods. The storytelling conversation takes about 10–15 minutes and gives people the opportunity to reflect on and preserve their experiences in their own words. Every participant will also receive a copy of their oral history to keep! Folks who choose to participate in the research portion will complete a few short surveys before and after sharing their story (plus a brief 1 -month follow-up survey) and can receive up to $30 in cash for their time.
A Community Collaboration
The Oral History Project is a collaboration between the GARD Lab, the Greater Brookland Integrational Village (GBIV), Humanities DC, and the local Advisory Neighborhood Comission (ANC). Together, we’ve created the project to give residents a welcoming space to share personal and community stories while exploring how storytelling may help neighbors feel connected.
This project is a continuiation of the our neighborhood our stories project. You can view the project here:
